One of the many things that I love about my church is their passion to serve others. The last two days we gave out over 13,000 cookies, to the staff and faculty at Goshen and Fairfield School Corporations. This was quite an amazing undertaking that required the whole church to pull it off. Hundreds of people baked a minimum of 3 dozen cookies each. Our kitchen was covered with Chocolate Chip cookies.
We packaged them into bags with a dozen cookies in each. A big thanks to Craig Koble who coordinated this whole outreach. Every single employee received a bag with a card that had their own name on it. We were able to pray with many of the employees. I was moved deeply as my people prayed. So why do this? Why blitz the community? Why not just send a card to the school and tell everyone thanks?
Well, we love our teachers and staff. We appreciate the endless hours they put in to teach our kids. We know how much they sacrifice. AND we want to go the extra mile and show them how much we appreciate them.
Besides, shouldn't followers of Jesus go the extra mile to say thanks? Our hope is that somehow, someway, we were able to be Jesus to someone who really needed an extra dose of encouragement today! Great Job Church!
