You and I are in a relay race called life. We have been handed a generational baton from our parents. We get to pass it on to the next generation so that our name outlives us. That is legacy.
Some of us have been handicapped in the hand off because of a previous poor choice of someone before us. Some of us are far behind in the race. Others have been handed faithfulness and integrity and we have dropped the baton and will handicap the next generation, while others are out in front of this race leading the way for the next generation.
We must take seriously the name that has been given to us and work hard at giving our children a fighting chance in this relay race by the way we have lived for Jesus. I want my kids to have front row seats to life and to be far ahead by the way I have lived my life.
When you pass off your name to your kids how much value does it carry? When your name appears on the back of the jersey of your child what do people say? Pass on a name that keeps your family out in front advancing the cause of Jesus. Your track record really does impact the next generation!
A good name is more desirable then great riches, to be esteemed is better than silver of gold. Proverbs 22:1
