passing it down

One of my primary desires in life is to leave a godly legacy. I long to live way beyond my death in the the lives of others. I long to pass on anything good that God has blessed me with. I long to literally come to the end of my life and have people stand at my grave and say he gave it all away. I do not want to go to the grave with some inside scoop in business, family, or ministry that could benefit others.

So, I work hard at pouring into others. Besides, I have been poured into by many godly men and women.

But it begins with my kids. I try to live out the principles in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 where as parents we are encouraged to teach our kids as we go along the way. So, I often pull my children into my world and connect God to life in teachable moments. As you can see in the photo above. Josh was coaching alongside of me many years ago at soccer camp. I was trying to model how to do that in front of him
This week, Josh, Hannah and Isaiah are coaching at our basketball camp together. So, when I see this photo of them pouring into the lives of  other kids, it does my heart well. I love this photo because they are passing on what has been passed onto them.

Thanks God for my children investing in the lives of  other children and passing down what has been passed down to them.

Passing it down

Josh has been home for fall break from Grace College and it is always a blessing to have him around. He spent some time hanging with his little brother, Isaiah, on the hoops court at home.

I loved watching the two of them go at it on the court and I especially enjoyed the moments where Josh was instructing him about the game itself. Isaiah would take the information in and immediately try to apply it to his game.

As a Father, I desire to pass down every tool in the book for my kids to get a head start in life. I long to give my life away and not have anything left over that could benefit them for years to come. So, when I witness the same thing happening among my boys on the court outside I am deeply moved.

One day down the road the spin move that Josh was showing Isaiah could be the very move he needs to make, to break open a very close game. If not the value in two brothers sharpening their skills together was a proud moment for this Father!

Passing it down

Yesterday afternoon Josh spent time with Isaiah on the hoops court, at our house. Isaiah has a daily chart of basketball skills he works on. While I was mowing I caught the two of them taking a break, as Josh was pouring into his little brother.

I love moments like these, when big brother passes his insight on to little brother. Times like these will soon be less frequent, as Josh heads off to college. But it sure moves me to think of how good it is, for Isaiah to have a big brother like Josh, investing in him.
